Vuja De – Think Differently!
In his blog Simon Bailey discusses the fact that a client had recently shared with him her frustration with her assistant because she had asked her to do what she thought was a simple task and the assistant couldn’t do it. When told that she had been there 21 years and should know how to do it, the assistant responded, “You are the first person that has asked me to think in seven years.”
In an era of significant global competition, there is no room for being an anemic thinker. Studies have shown that within companies with a significant number of thinking-intensive workers, net profits increase. These are employees who find a way to expand their knowledge bandwidth and think differently about their work. They see it as a career to build, instead of job to have.
A thinking-intensive individual is constantly scanning the environment to see where things are headed. They have a knack for reading the tea leaves of the times and thinking like a poker strategist. People who don’t think become robotic in their execution. People who do think ask, “Why are we doing this and is there a better way?” People who don’t think are waiting to be told what to do. People who do think just make it happen.
Thinking differently is the new killer app. Men and women who implement their own routine of mental gymnastics are constantly looking at business and life through the lens of “Vuja de” and saying enough is enough. Something has to change. What about you? Do you Vuja de? Do you think differently?
Do you see the future in the present or do you see what everyone else sees and accept it at face value?
