Creatively we are thinking … sometimes!
A row of brightly coloured beach bathing huts in assorted and in some ways, mismatched, colours reminded me of how a collidescope of differently talented individuals can come together in a business and work magic!
That thought made me realise how easy it is for us to think differently when we use the everyday things around us to release our thoughts. For instance a glance at a light fitting could push our thinking towards recognising the need to highlight our challenges, and through that illumination we face them head on instead of keeping them in the dark. We all know that challenges cannot stay buried for long without disastrous consequences.
Seeing a new bud on a flower can lead us to consider new ventures and the great potential for sustainability that diversification can have. Many entrepreneurs tell us that it is the business diversification that has allowed them to maintain business strength.
Why is it so much easier to open our minds when we start to use the everyday things around us to link our thinking? Because we take the pressure away from the “actual” and create a safe place for our imagination to flow. When we use our imagination – our creative side – we can become brave in our solution driven thinking.
So, when I am mentally “stuck” I use those simple items around me to divert my mind and allow my thoughts to flow. Those brightly coloured bathing huts allowed me to suggest to a client a shift in the team structure and responsibilities that enhanced their performance without needing to hire additional personnel.
